Best enjoyed with sound: No place feels more Irish than Ballintoy Harbour on Northern Ireland’s North Coast (one of our Top 10 favourite places). The old time charm of the harbour combined with the truly breathtaking, unique scenery that surrounds it makes this place feel like something out of a fairytale … or a TV series! Yup, that’s right, this is a famous Game of Thrones filming location. We even bumped into some of the series’ heroes while filming this …
Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as we all know, has more than its fair share of ‘colourful’ and, dare we say it, eccentric characters!
During our travels around the country we have discovered that the same can also be said of many of its four-legged inhabitants – our lovely Irish animals! From the north coast beaches of Northern Ireland to the rugged north coast of County Donegal we have been lucky enough to bump into a number of them. Some are cute, some can be a little bit rude, some are just plain weird and some just like nothing better than to have a good old laugh and enjoy a bit of ‘craic’! These are a few of our favourites so we hope you enjoy them 🙂 View Post
Irish Bread Galore
We had been thinking recently about writing an article to do with Irish/Northern Irish traditional food. We could have had hearty food such as stew, champ, colcannon and boxty. We could also have had the very strangely named vegetable roll which still puzzles Martha who isn’t from around these parts! She thought she was getting something healthy the first time I gave her it so was rather bemused when she bit into what tasted like a sausage! Apparently it contains leeks, which makes it qualify as a vegetable product. Christmas dinner contains parsley in its stuffing so it probably qualifies as a salad in Ireland by that reasoning! In the end we decided to downscale slightly, for now at least, and talk about that other favourite food type … Irish bread! View Post
