Breakfast in America – Part Two
The Mission San Diego
In part one of this series we told you about The Blue Front Café in San Francisco. Today we are taking you way down south to our favourite breakfast Spot in San Diego.
This place is so good that we would possibly book a vacation just to go there again! The Mission has three locations in the San Diego area but the one which we visited on both occasions was on University Avenue, or North Park as the area is referred to. We had been staying at a house close to it on our first visit to the city. It’s one of those places where you know that no matter what you order it will be delicious and because of that it is extremely popular and you may have to wait a short time for a table – but believe us when we say that it’s worth it! It is solely open for breakfast and lunch from 7am to 3pm
Its menu ranges from classic pancake combos to modern Chino-Latino cuisine and is sure to satisfy any appetite. We have to admit that we have had the same breakfast both times we have been. We would love to be able to visit more often to sample more of their extensive menu but the first time was so good, we had been craving it again for the following year! Pancakes and Cinnamon French toast might not sound particularly out of this world or adventurous but that’s because you’ve never had The Mission’s version of them! When you ask for a Blueberry Pancake they come piled high with berry purée and powdered sugar and the pancakes are packed with blueberries or strawberries/bananas if you prefer. The French toast is similarly out of this world and we also ask for a side of fresh cream to accompany them….the extra calories are worth it though you can also have sides of scrambled eggs, bacon or crispy rosemary potatoes. They have a comprehensive range of juices and hot drinks and they refill the coffee and tea free of charge I know.
So if you’re ever in or even close to San Diego make it your mission the visit The Mission….you won’t regret it!
Come back next week to brunch with us in the City of Angels.
